BLS for Healthcare Provider Pre-course Study Guide
If you are registered to attend our BLS CPR Renewal class in Concord, you should spend a few minutes to study before your course. The American Heart Association Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider has a 25 question written test at the end of the training.
Compressions to Breaths Ratio for Single Rescuer CPR
- Adults: 30:2
- Infants and Children: 30:2
Compressions to Breaths for 2 Person CPR
- Adults: 30:2
- Infants and Children: 15:2
Rescue Breathing
- Adults: 1 breath every 5-6 seconds
- Infants and Children: 1 breath every 3-5 seconds
- Advanced Airway: 1 breath every 6-8 seconds
Bag Valve Masks
Bag valve masks are not recommended for single rescuer CPR. They are better to use when performing 2 person CPR. Pocket masks, mouth to mouth breathing are better if performing single rescuer CPR.
Choking for Adults
- Ask victim if they are choking.
- If they cannot speak or breath perform abdominal thrusts.
- Continue until object is removed or victim becomes unconscious.
- If unconscious, start CPR.
Infant Choking
- Perform 5 back blows and 5 chest thrusts
- If baby becomes unconscious, start CPR
